Marian Thiede (1949-2026)
Marian Thiede was a painter and sculptor, an employee of cultural centers in Tuchola and Chojnice, an organizer of artistic events, and an art teacher.
He graduated from the Antoni Kenar State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Zakopane and studied with Władysław Hasior and Antoni Rząsa, among others. He completed his studies and graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (today the Academy of Fine Arts). He was a member of the Bydgoszcz Art Association. He was a winner of the National Competition for Art Instructors - Rzeszów '85, the "Beauty of the Tuchola Region" painting competitions in '87 and '88, and the "Fantasy" competition - "Impossible Figures" in '87.
The statue of Our Lady Queen of the Polish Crown in the market square in Tuchola is familiar to every resident of Tuchola. Marian Thiede designed and carved the monumental sandstone statue of the Virgin Mary and Child that crowns it, unveiled in 1995.
In 1998, he took the third place in the competition for the portrait of Pope John Paul II - now the portrait is in the church under the invocation of st. Jakub in Tuchola. Another painting view of Pope John Paul II by Marian Thiede can be found in
the Tuchola church under the invocation of Corpus Christi.
In 2012, he created a sculpture depicting Casimir IV Jagiellon, King of Poland, located in the Millennium Park in Chojnice. There is also a statue of Piotr Dunin, made by a sculptor in Tuchola in 2014. In 2013, he created a statue of St. Anne for the town of Silno, located near the Cultural Center. Nearby, Ciechocin boasts a sculpture of St. Marcin, created
and unveiled in 2020.

He created a plaster bust of Father Lt. Col. Józef Wrycza (posthumously promoted to the rank of general), which is currently located at the Pilgrim's House in Wiele. The work was presented in Tuchola in 2016 during the academic conference "Fr. Lt. Col. Józef Wrycza – New Facts."
In the seventies, eighties and nineties of the twentieth century, he designed and made several original thematic murals in Tuchola. for the fire brigade (Don't play with fire) on Szkolna Street or for a kindergarten on Bydgoska Street (Mural with playing children).
The artist, apart from many landscape paintings and still lifes, also creates portraits. In the School Complex in Chojnice
( Nowe Miasto Street) there is a gallery with portraits of teachers and distinguished graduates, in which there are many portraits painted by Marian Thiede (including: Stefan Bieszk, Antoni Horst, Ludwik Zabrocki, Stanisław Sawicki, Władysław Tatarkiewicz , Tadeusz Czapla, Stanisław Sikorski, Helena and Bogumił Hoffmann, Mieczysław Szczepański and others)
In 2015, the artist took part in a project organized by the Italian Imago Mundi Foundation, which ended with exhibitions in various European cities. The work in the collection can be viewed on the Imago Mundi Collection website. The summary
